Pictou County Fuel Fund presents awards for support
The Pictou County Fuel Fund handed out several awards last week, recognizing support of the organization’s goal of ensuring “No child shall go cold in Pictou County.”
The East Coast Credit Union received an Award of Merit for its outstanding repeated financial contributions. The credit union’s annual commitment helps to purchase fuel for those in need.
Shirley MacKay, a member of the board of directors of PCFF, received a Community Award for her work with the Pictou County Council of Churches. MacKay has “worked tirelessly” to increase awareness of the Fuel Fund within the Council of Churches, as well as working diligently to increase donations. The Community Award is presented to a business, individual or community organization that organized a community event or events with the intent to donate funds raised to the Pictou County Fuel Fund.
Eric LeBlanc, an original and current board member of the PCFF, is also a caseworker for the Pictou area. He was recognized with a Founder’s Award
– given to a business, individual or community organization that has played a significant role in creating and/or maintaining the PCFF – for his dedication, untiring passion and insights.
Two companies received the Ambassador’s Award, presented to a business, individual or community organization that furthers the work of the PCFF.
Tim Hortons was presented with the award acknowledging its 2016 Smile Cookie campaign, which contributed more than $10,000 to the Fuel Fund.
“Suffice to say we are deeply indebted to Tim Hortons restaurants in Pictou County,” said PCFF chairperson Jim McKenna.
Weeks Construction Ltd. was also given an Ambassador’s Award, for its significant donation. “Corporate leaders like S.W. Weeks Construction Ltd. allow the Pictou County Fuel Fund to achieve sustainability,” said McKenna.
PCFF provides oil or firewood once per heating season to those in need and who find themselves in an urgent situation.
