Race on the River now has honorary chair

-

Soon, the spirit of competition will be helping the community in Pictou County in the most beneficial way.

Dragon boats will ply the waters of the East River for a good cause once again at the 17th annual Race on the River Dragon Boat Festival. The honorary chair of the July 20-21 event has also been announced: Jeff MacLean.

President of Michelin North America (Canada), MacLean said he is honoured to serve this year, noting that the recipient charities are very deserving of the support they receive from the event.

“This wonderful event showcases the exceptional caring side of our community,” said MacLean. “It highlights the donated time and dedicated efforts of all the wonderful volunteers, organizers, paddlers – or the crowd on the shore cheering, allowing this event to make a positive difference in people’s lives.”

MacLean has been with Michelin for 25 years, serving in manufacturing and general management positions in Nova Scotia, and Clermont-Ferrand, France.

MacLean made good use of his bachelor of science in engineering and applied sciences from Saint Mary’s University and Technical University (now Dalhousie), in the first half of his career with Michelin, focusing on engineering, quality and operational and leadership roles in Canada’s three manufacturing plants.

Later, he focused on progress in truck tire lines, serving as employee relationships manager for Canadian operations, and subsequently as site manager for the Michelin Pictou County facility in Granton.

A press release from Race on the River suggested that teams register for the race as soon as possible — prior to May 31 — to take advantage of an early-bird registration fee.
