Classical Series back at the deCoste
The deCoste is partnering with Debut Atlantic this fall to bring classical music back to its stage once again. The second performance of the series will be on Oct. 23 with a youthful ensemble, known as Les Songes, based out of Montreal, who contribute their talents to bring the musical compositions of Handel and Bach to life as they share their love of baroque music through virtuosic performances.
The members have accumulated extensive performing experience with groups including Flûte Alors!, Les Violons du Roy, Ensemble Caprice, and Jean Leloup. Established individual musicians, they have collectively toured throughout North America and Europe, and have received awards including the Prix d’Europe Competition and the Fernard Lindsay Career Award.
Regarded as leaders in their field, they have been recorded and broadcast by CBC’s Ici Musique and are known as a talented, versatile baroque ensemble giving skillful, energetic and enthralling performances.
“Classical music is a genre many are hesitant to experience because they assume that without words to the music, it’s not as interesting,” said deCoste marketing manager, Jennifer MacLennan. “However, anyone who appreciates classical music knows how very moving some of these baroque pieces can be.”
To give music students an opportunity to experience the classics, the deCoste is offering a complimentary ticket to any student who is interested in hearing Les Songes perform. Tickets for the performance for adults or seniors interested are $25 ($22 for member) and can be purchased by contacting the box office Monday - Friday between 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at (902) 485-8848 x 1, online at www.decostecentre.ca or in person at 99 Water Street, Pictou, NS B0K 1H0.
Future Classical Performances will include Cowan Cicchillitti Guitar on Tuesday November 20 and the Rolston String Quartet on Tuesday February 19, 2019.
