Nothing lasts forever, not even the bad stuff

-

Remember that time back in mid-September, when the summer light was fading and the Junior A Crushers won a hockey game?

The date was Sept. 13, and the Crushers beat the Valley Wildcats 2-1 in overtime. It was the best of times, and then suddenly that time was up.

The Crushers truly aren’t awful, even if they have lost 12 straight since that magical Thursday night against the Wildcats (seven of their losses have been one-goal games). In fact, if they can go on a bit of a run here and win a few, they could easily climb right back into the playoff picture. Which is what they need to do pretty quickly here, so they might as well start Thursday against the Miramichi Timberwolves.

Predicting the Outcome: This hardly ever happens, but I’ve got a gut feeling the Crushers will break the skid against the TWolves.

Sooner or later, they have to, don’t they? They’re not going to lose the next 37 games, are they?

I’m thinking something like 4-2 against the Timberwolves. And then, energized by that winning feeling, they’ll beat the South Shore Lumberjacks on the road Friday night. You heard it here first, and if it doesn’t work out the way I expect it to, you’ll forget all about it in a couple of days, so we’re all good here. its own (it’s one of our charms), and can anyone blame them for being, to put it mildly, somewhat skeptical of whatever Northern Pulp tells us?

As fisherman Allan MacCarthy told The News: “Yesterday (Oct. 22), we saw again that Northern Pulp did not know that their effluent pipe was leaking until a citizen reported it,” he said. “The same thing happened in 2014 - a 47 million litre raw effluent spill - and that’s on land. It’s unbelievable that our government wants us to trust this company with an underwater pipe dumping effluent into our fishing grounds.”

• It just occurred to me that a full 11 days elapsed without my looking at Facebook or Twitter accounts – or barely even thinking about them – and yet I missed next-to-nothing, with the possible exception of cute animal videos someone may have posted. Videos like that are what makes the Internet great.

There’s a lot of useless noise out there on social media, but it’s easy to control the cacophony (or avoid it altogether), if you truly want to.
