Pic­tou County teams clean up at Sub­way Cup

The Pee­wee AA Sub­way Se­lects were the di­vi­sion win­ners at the Sub­way Cup Oct. 28.

The game against Metro West Force Blue on Oct. 26 ended in a 2-2 tie, with Se­lects goals by Mya Mac­Don­ald, from Ella Fitt, and Chloe Garcia, from Eliz­a­beth MacEach­ern.

The first game Oct. 27 was a 1-0 win against P.E.I. Cen­tral Storm, with the Se­lects goal by So­phie For­ward from Reese Mur­ray. Goalie Cait­lyn Cleary had the shutout.

A se­cond game Oct. 27 ended with a 3-1 win against Metro East In­ferno, with Se­lects goals by Garcia from Na­mara Clarke, Anna Ken­na­ley from Kar­lee Rose, and Ken­na­ley from Lily Leblanc.

The cham­pi­onship game on Oct. 28 was a 1-0 win against Metro West Force Blue with the only goal of the game scored by Garcia from Fitt.

Cleary had her se­cond shutout in the tour­na­ment.

Ban­tam AA Se­lects win sil­ver

The Ban­tam AA Sub­way Se­lects came a goal short from run­ning the ta­ble at the Sub­way Cup. They were edged in the fi­nal 1-0 by the tour­na­ment cham­pi­ons Western Phan­toms of New Brunswick.

The Se­lects ad­vanced to the fi­nal with a 4-1 semi­fi­nal win over

Metro West Blue.

Erin MacNeil, Jaylen Langille, Olivia Fitt and Bree MacPher­son all scored for the Se­lects, with Megan Smith and Willa Evans pro­vid­ing as­sists. The win­ning goal­tender was Gabby Arse­nault.

The Se­lects had a per­fect 4-0 record in round-robin play as Arse­nault and the de­fence in front of her gave up no goals in those four games.

Game one saw the Se­lects beat Western Wind (P.E.I.) 2-0. Bail­lie Grif­fon and Ju­lia Mac­Don­ald were the scor­ers, with as­sists from Emily Hart and Ken­zie Green­corn.

Game two was also a 2-0 vic­tory against Cen­tral Storm (P.E.I.). Fitt scored both goals for the Se­lects with as­sists from Smith and MacNeil on both goals.

Game 3 saw Fitt tip in a Sarah Fraser point shot as the Se­lects edged New­bridge Academy 1-0.

The fourth game saw the Se­lects edge the Cape Bre­ton Bl­iz­zard 1-0. Langille scored the only goal with help from Fitt and Josie Dunn.

Mid­get suc­cess

Both the AAA Mid­gets and AA Mid­gets cap­tured gold medals at the Sub­way Cup.

For the AAA Mid­gets, goal scor­ers in the 5-0 fi­nal over North­ern Light­en­ing were Tori MacPher­son, Cassie Clarke, KJ Emery, Natalie MacKay and Ash­ley Liv­ingston.

In the Mid­get AA cham­pi­onship game, the Se­lects edged Metro West Force 1-0, with Keighan DeCoff get­ting the only goal, as­sisted by Paige Mac­Don­ald.

Ken­zie O’Don­nell was player of the game for the Se­lects, mak­ing sev­eral game sav­ing stops to se­cure the win.

It was the team’s se­cond Sub­way Cup Mid­get AA cham­pi­onship in a row.
