Pictou County’s Ageing Well Together Coalition holding information fair
Whether a newcomer to Pictou County or a longtime resident here, an age-friendly community information fair at the New Glasgow library can provide answers to many questions.
“It is important that community members have the information they need to live their best lives,” says Mary MacLellan of Seniors Outreach. “This will help seniors meet the people, and organizations, who are providing the services and programming that will benefit them.”
Hosted by members of the Pictou County Ageing Well Together coalition, the fair features community groups that provide information, services and programming that contribute to Pictou County being an age-friendly community.
The event is Nov. 16, 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the New Glasgow library, and all are welcome.
An age-friendly world enables people of all ages to actively participate in community activities, while treating everyone with respect, regardless of their age.
Pictou County Ageing Well Together coalition members raise awareness around that concept and promote and engage in activities to create change. The event is being planned as part of Falls Prevention Month held every November.
Last year, coalition members held walkabouts in each of Pictou County’s municipalities to engage municipal officials and to document potential slip, trip and fall hazards. This year, the fair will supplement that information. Plans include exercise/physical activity demonstrations, home adaptation information, assistive and mobility devices and gift guides, library services, community programming, information about applying for pensions and benefits and presentations about services that promote independence.
