Pedestrian killed while attempting to cross East River Road
A 58-year-old man was killed Monday night, Nov. 19, after being struck by a vehicle on East River Road in New Glasgow.
At approximately 7:10 p.m., New Glasgow Regional Police, New Glasgow Fire Department and Emergency Health Services responded to a 911 call and attended the scene of a motor vehicle collision involving a Ford SUV and a pedestrian.
Police stated in a release that following their preliminary investigation they believe the pedestrian was travelling across East River Road near the area of McColl Street when the driver of the Ford SUV collided with him.
The pedestrian was transported by EHS to Aberdeen Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
New Glasgow Regional Police, Forensic Unit and Traffic Unit continue to investigate.
“There was no crosswalk in the immediate area where he tried to cross,” said New Glasgow Regional Police spokesman, Ken MacDonald. “We’re still investigating in terms of the cause.”
The man’s identity is not being released until friends and family can be notified.
