Glen Haven Manor installs information kiosks
Residents’ families and visitors can more easily access useful information as a result of kiosks installed at Glen Haven Manor.
The five leading-edge kiosks feature customized software and specialized hardware, both specifically tailored to the needs of Glen Haven. Each kiosk showcases a resident’s listing, a monthly events calendar, dining menu, facility map with an interactive floor plan, Glen Haven office locations, emergency fire routes and Glen Haven history information, all in a visually pleasing and easyto-read style.
The kiosks were designed and developed by local multimedia specialist Jon Visser of RavenMedia for Glen Haven. It is CSA approved with a 42-inch touch screen that allows for enlarged type to accommodate the visually impaired and for wheelchair accessibility.
“In today’s world we expect information at our fingertips and that is exactly what our kiosks provide,” says Glen Haven CEO Lisa M. Smith.
“The kiosks will provide a greener option to obtaining information as it will reduce paper use and bulletin boards,” she adds.
“They are beautifully designed to be highly functional, fully accessible, eye catching and unobtrusive.”
During meetings of the Glen Haven Board, Residents Council and Family Council, board members, residents and family members were given early views of the kiosk model as they were being developed.”
Information on the kiosks is fully secure as it is programmed with a proprietary software designed by Visser that locks out the end user from visiting content other than what is provided within the software itself. The chassis of each kiosk is uniquely designed and built to allow for lower accessibility while the software was designed such that navigation is lower on screen, than typically found, to enable comfort for wheelchair users. Its larger than usual screen also enables the installation of a large font for an easy read.
Additional information features and updates to the software will be ongoing.
