The Northumberland Nighthawks varsity boys basketball team put in a stellar weekend, finishing second in a 32-team tournament in Fredericton.

The Nighthawks tallied five wins and a single loss, putting in strong performances against one competitive team after another.

Glen Cox, tournament all-star, averaged 45 points per game throughout the weekend while Raine Decoste was double digits for points and rebounds.

Lexter Rico, Derrick Cho, Marcus MacLeod, Rhys Stevenson, Decoste and Cox all picked up player of the game awards.

After bad weather cancelled a tournament and a game last week, the Nighthawks were anxious to get some court action and started strong. Their coaches credited a steady and concerted defensive effort with fueling their success.

With mostly returning players from last year and three new additions, the Nighthawks will be playing in the Anse MacDonald Invitational Tournament at NNEC Friday and Saturday.
