Syrup farm helps put Earltown on travel blog map
Sugar Moon Farm in Earltown, Colchester County, has received numerous accolades in recent years and now it can add one more to its list.
The travel site Expedia.ca has rated Earltown as one of the Best Places to Experience Winter in Canada, in part because of the services offered by Sugar Moon Farm.
Quita Gray, co-owner of Sugar Moon Farm, said the most awesome thing about the article for her was seeing Earltown ranked among such other more well-known attractions as Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario and other sites in other large Canadian cities.
“That was what struck me the most. And I just love that Earltown is getting put on the map. And then they talked about the (Earltown General) store, too, right?” she said. “So that’s exactly the way we would want to brand our community, I think.”
This is what the travel blog has to say about Sugar Moon Farm and the Earltown area: “Some of us are Julia Child in the kitchen. Some of us keep fire extinguishers as handy as the pizza delivery number. But one thing we can agree on is that there are few things that beat freshly made pancakes swimming in maple syrup. Readers of the blog are encouraged to stop into the Earltown General Store, which it describes as having a “nostalgic feel straight out of a Bing Crosby movie,” and to “go snowshoeing at the exquisite Gully Lake Wilderness Area.”
Gray said she loved seeing the positive spin put on the area and believes visitors who come will realize it can live up to those expectations.
“We really appreciate it, always,” she said. “And I just think it demonstrates what world-class destinations we have in Nova Scotia and then, how a small community can really draw people.”
Currently Sugar Moon Farm is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It will also be open Dec. 27, 28, 29 and 30 but is closed Dec. 25, 26, 31 and Jan. 1.
