Stojko to skate in Pictou County’s Mariposa East Skating Centre ice show

-

Elvis Stojko is coming to Pictou County.

The three-time world figure skating champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist will be making a special appearance at the annual Mariposa East Skating Centre ice show at the Pictou County Wellness Centre on March 10.

Stojko will appear twice during the Ice Show and skate in the final program which is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m.

The day before the show Stojko will facilitate a clinic for competitive skaters from throughout Nova Scotia, including many from the Mariposa East Skating Centre.

“Elvis is a pioneer in the sport of figure skating,” says Mariposa East head coach Angela Coady. “We are extremely excited to provide this opportunity to the residents of Pictou County to come and watch one of Canada’s most decorated athletes in their own backyard.”

While Stojko will be a definite draw for many people, organizers say the real stars of the show are the Can Skaters and local competitive skaters who have worked hard all year for their own achievements.

Stojko, 46, currently resides in Toronto. In addition to his world and Olympic titles, he is also a seven-time Canadian champion. He was also the first person to successfully land a quadruple jump in combination with a double jump at the 1991 World Figure Skating championships and the first to perform a quadruple jump in combination with a triple jump at the 1997 champion series final.

More details and ticket sales locations will be announced later this month.
