Sto­jko to skate in Pic­tou County’s Mari­posa East Skat­ing Cen­tre ice show

Elvis Sto­jko is com­ing to Pic­tou County.

The three-time world fig­ure skat­ing cham­pion and two-time Olympic sil­ver medal­ist will be mak­ing a spe­cial ap­pear­ance at the an­nual Mari­posa East Skat­ing Cen­tre ice show at the Pic­tou County Well­ness Cen­tre on March 10.

Sto­jko will ap­pear twice dur­ing the Ice Show and skate in the fi­nal pro­gram which is sched­uled to take place at 2 p.m.

The day be­fore the show Sto­jko will fa­cil­i­tate a clinic for com­pet­i­tive skaters from through­out Nova Sco­tia, in­clud­ing many from the Mari­posa East Skat­ing Cen­tre.

“Elvis is a pioneer in the sport of fig­ure skat­ing,” says Mari­posa East head coach An­gela Coady. “We are ex­tremely ex­cited to pro­vide this op­por­tu­nity to the res­i­dents of Pic­tou County to come and watch one of Canada’s most dec­o­rated ath­letes in their own back­yard.”

While Sto­jko will be a def­i­nite draw for many peo­ple, or­ga­niz­ers say the real stars of the show are the Can Skaters and lo­cal com­pet­i­tive skaters who have worked hard all year for their own achieve­ments.

Sto­jko, 46, cur­rently re­sides in Toronto. In ad­di­tion to his world and Olympic ti­tles, he is also a seven-time Cana­dian cham­pion. He was also the first per­son to suc­cess­fully land a quadru­ple jump in com­bi­na­tion with a dou­ble jump at the 1991 World Fig­ure Skat­ing cham­pi­onships and the first to per­form a quadru­ple jump in com­bi­na­tion with a triple jump at the 1997 cham­pion se­ries fi­nal.
