April 27, 1938 – December 27, 2018 - James Chester Gunn passed away on the evening of Dec. 27, 2018 at RDRH Red Deer, AB. James was born April 27, 1938 in Antigonish NS. He lived in East River St. Mary’s NS, Lethbridge AB, Lochaber NS & finally in Joffre AB. He is predecease­d by his parents John Chester Gunn and Myrtle (Tait). Also, his sisters Francis (Lawson) McKeen, Ruth (Stanley) Cameron, Ethel (Henry) Cameron & Edith (Elmer) Greene. James leaves behind his wife, Donna (Taylor) Gunn, son Darrell (Sarah) Gunn, daughter Leah (Robert) Pennington. Grandchild­ren, Reis, Tristen (Emma), Liam & Sierra Gunn and Jordan (Montana), Matthew & Daniel Pennington as well as a step- Grandson Stephen Pennington. Also, nephews, Donnie, Ian, Barrie, David, John, Allen, Gerald & Leonard (deceased). Also, nieces, Audrey, Elizabeth, Lynda, Mary, Jane, Irene, Annabelle, Lesley & Joanna. James was raised by his sisters following his parent’s death at a young age. They, especially Ruth, raised him to be a God fearing, reliable, hardworkin­g man. Who in turn passed that on to his children and grandchild­ren. James was very well known for his singing voice. He was a member of the original St. Mary’s Choir and had sung at countless weddings, funerals and church services throughout the years. He was a strong Christian man who was always willing to share his love of the Gospel with anyone. Whether it was a one on one situation or from behind a pulpit. He was a hard worker from a young age. He worked at farming, logging, Christmas trees, Blueberry farming and was a Journeyman Carpenter. He worked at St. Micheal’s Hospital in Lethbridge as the head Carpenter. James was able to turn his hand at pretty much anything he put his mind to. He was a kind, humble, loving Father, Husband, Grandpa, Brother and Uncle. A Celebratio­n of Life Service was held at the Willow Valley Presbyteri­an Church, 26016 Highway 595 Red Deer County, AB T4E0T8 on Thursday January 03, 2019 at 1:00pm. Donations in memory of James may be directed to Saving Grace Animal Society, 4932 Main St, Alix, AB T0C 0B0.
