New telecom tower site proposed in Pictou
PICTOU, N.S. — People in the town of Pictou complaining about spotty Wi-Fi from Eastlink will be happy to know the Atlantic telecom company could have improved coverage by this summer.
At a recent town council meeting, a motion was carried allowing Eastlink to install a new tower which would improve coverage essentially to everyone in the town west of Wellington Street.
A plot on Brown’s Point Road, near the causeway, is being looked at by Eastlink as the ideal location for the proposed tower.
Usually, if a tower like this is to be built, all residents within a certain diameter around the building site must be notified. So, with a 61-metre freestanding tower, like the one proposed, all residents within a 183-metre diameter would first be notified by mail. However, the Brown’s Point road location is further removed from residential areas, and its proximity to the public works will make snow removal to the site’s access road much easier.
Eastlink has three other telecom locations in the town of Pictou, on Front Street, Division Road and at the ferry terminal. The News
