New Glasgow man arrested on child porn charges
A New Glasgow man has been arrested on child pornography charges.
The RCMP’s Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, in a joint investigation with the New Glasgow Police Service, arrested 20-year-old Nicholas Linthorne on Jan. 10.
On Jan. 10, the RCMP’s ICE Unit along with members of the New Glasgow Police and the RCMP Technological Crime Unit searched a home in New Glasgow.
“Investigators were directed to the residence after a social media application alerted law enforcement that child pornography was being shared on their service,” the RCMP said in a news release.
During the incident, police say Linthorne reached for what appeared to be a handgun under a desk. The suspect was quickly controlled by the police officers and officers were able to safely remove the weapon from him and later determined the firearm was a replica. One police officer and the suspect sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
Linthorne has been charged with the following: transmitting child pornography; possession of child pornography; resisting arrest; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; using an imitation firearm while committing the indictable offence of resisting arrest; and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
Linthorne has been remanded until his next scheduled appearance on Feb. 5 in Pictou provincial court.
