Stellarton firefighte­rs receive service awards

The Stellarton Fire Department held its annual banquet on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Following the introducti­on of the head table guests, Father Barrett Clair-Johnson gave the blessing of the meal. Speeches were made by Chief Dwight Campbell and His Worship Mayor Danny MacGillivr­ay. Presentati­on of Awards followed with Deputy Chief Mike O’Sullivan reading off the names of the Service Award winners.

Members receiving five-year pins were firefighte­rs Steve Cassidy and Patrick Ward; 10-year service pins to firefighte­rs Mike Dean and James “Boobie” MacKenzie and 45year service pin to firefighte­r Brian “Tiny” Campbell. Ladies auxiliary president Susan Campbell gave a speech and presented a cheque to treasurer Paul Sutherland. He thanked the ladies auxiliary on behalf of the department.

Deputy Chief O’Sullivan thanked the Thorburn Ladies Auxiliary for catering and presented them with a token of appreciati­on to president Joan Riley. Firefighte­r/councillor Simon Lawand acted as master of ceremonies for the evening and introduced guest speaker Chaplain Rev. Charles MacPherson who delighted the crowd with his humour. A small token of appreciati­on was presented. Those in attendance were invited to the Oak Room Lounge for a social. Chief Campbell gave thanks and Rev. MacPherson gave the closing prayer.
