Four displaced after Stellarton structure fire

STELLARTON, N.S. — Stellarton Fire department responded to a structure fire at 87 and 89 Acadia Ave. at 1 a.m. on Feb. 9.

Four adults escaped unharmed but lost belongings and the duplex was extensivel­y damaged, including most of the roof collapsing.

Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross arranged emergency lodging through the weekend, food, winter clothing purchases and other basics for a woman and man from one unit, and clothing and food for a couple from the other unit, who are staying with friends.

Members of the Stellarton Fire Department brought the blaze under control by 6 a.m., but were called to the scene again hours later to deal with flare-ups.

The cause of the fire is under investigat­ion.
