Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts breakfast kicking off major fundraising event
Big Brothers Big Sisters kicks off annual fundraising campaign.
STELLARTON, N.S. — A free pancake and sausage breakfast on Friday kicked off the 39th annual Bowl for Kids Sake campaign.
The event was held at the Nova Scotia Community College. This year’s Bowl for Kids theme is a pajama party.
As in past years, Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking for volunteers, especially men, who are keen to take part in the organization’s youth mentorship programs where mentors are matched up with youth between the ages of six and 18.
“We talk to you about what you like to do and why you want to be a big brother or sister, and then we do the same with the families,” said executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters Pictou county, Margie Grant-Walsh. “Once a match is made, then it’s supported for the whole length of the match.”
Friday’s breakfast lasted from 7:30 until 9 a.m. and was well attended by students ahead of their morning classes.
A sign-up booth for Bowl for Kids Sake was set up close to steaming trays of pancakes and sausages.
