Library event being held for purchase of new books

- ADAM MACINNIS THE NEWS

If you’ve ever been told no eating or drinking in the library, you now have a chance to be part of an exception to the rules.

On March 3, the New Glasgow library will host a special fundraising event for the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library called Dining Among the Stacks.

During the event, the library will be transformed into a restaurant for more than 100 people with tables set up among the stacks. Food will be catered by the Pantry Kitchen and entertainment will be provided by the North Nova Jazz Combo. There will also be a silent auction. Proceeds from the event will go toward purchasing new books for the library.

Jean Rozee, who is organizing the event, heard about a similar fundraiser being held at another library in the past and decided to replicate the success here in Pictou County as a creative way to raise funds and offer something new for library patrons.

At $60 a ticket, sales are already going well, she said, and she’s optimistic they will sell out by the Feb. 28 cutoff point. Those who attend the event can receive a charitable receipt for $30 of the ticket price.

“People seem to really love the library,” she said. “They want to support the library in any way they can.”

Rozee said the Pantry Kitchen has been very helpful in coming up with ideas for the event. Some items that ticket holders can expect to taste during the evening include roasted butternut squash soup, apple pecan stuffed chicken breasts as well as wine, coffee and desserts.

Tickets for the event can be purchased at any library branch or by emailing jrozee@nsngp.library.ns.ca and sending an e-transfer. Credit cards can only be accepted at library headquarters in New Glasgow.
