Westville garden club meets

- CONTRIBUTED

The Westville and Area Gardening Club met at Walter Duggan Consolidated Elementary School on Wednesday, Jan. 16, with 13 members in attendance.

President Margie Beck expressed best wishes to everyone for a 2019 good gardening season with no weeds. Condolences were expressed to Joyce MacKarney on the recent death of her brother. There were two birthdays — Clare MacKinnon and Diana Mannion. The agenda, “the 2019 Focus on the Future,” was read and approved by Dianna Mannion and seconded by Kim Gordon.

The minutes of the last meeting were read by secretary, Anne Palmer, and approved as read. The financial report was presented by Clare MacKinnon, the club’s financial officer. Also the invoice was presented to the club from Nelsons monuments for the plaque for the “Gardener” sculpture in Acadia Park. A motion was made by Donnie Gordon and seconded by Hugh Palmer to pay the invoice. Isabel Kennedy, our card secretary, sent her regrets at not being able to attend this meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Margie discussed the story board with everyone. It was suggested the story board will be placed in Acadia Park explaining the sculpture our club placed in the park.

OLD BUSINESS

Clare MacKinnon reported there were 10 people at the gathering. It was an evening of great fellowship with the evening ending with a Christmas reading by Margie Beck. Because of the small gathering, there was no collection for the food bank. It was suggested perhaps next year we schedule our Christmas gathering the end of November. Because at our February meeting, Margie suggested we send cards to the member who, because of health reasons, were unable to attend meetings.
