Blaze destroys vacant Trenton home
TRENTON, N.S. — Fire extensively damaged a house on Main Street in Trenton on Monday, Feb. 18.
Firefighters first responded to the call around 9:45 a.m. The building was quickly engulfed and smoke could be seen billowing heavily from it.
The building is located next to True Colours Hair Salon and was vacant, said Const. Ken MacDonald of the New Glasgow Regional Police. A portion of Main Street was closed while firefighters were on scene.
Crystal Treen, who lives near the house that burned, said she had let her dogs out at around 9:30 a.m. and thought everything was fine. Then, the next time she looked out, there was smoke billowing and she heard fire trucks approaching.
“It’s mind boggling,” she said. Firefighters were called back to the fire twice later in the day to put out flare-ups.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Westville Fire Department assisted Trenton Fire Department on the call and Abercrombie Fire Department provided manpower on scene and had a truck on standby.
