Woman rescued after remote hiking accident
SCOTS BAY, N.S. — A 38-year-old woman was rescued by a Cormorant helicopter and was taken to the hospital after a hiking incident at Amethyst Cove near Cape Split in the evening of Feb. 18.
Rescuers weren’t able to launch boats because of pack ice in the Minas basin.
High-angle rescuers responded and a helicopter was called in from CFB Greenwood. The helicopter was able to land at the scene to retrieve the woman, who was flown to a point where she was picked up by emergency health services. The rope team was not needed.
Reports said the woman had been with a group of people who were hiking in the area and l slipped on the ice near the bottom of the trail.
Officials reminded hikers to dress appropriately, take a cellphone and tell people where you are going.
