Grand Slam curling coming to the wellness centre in the fall
The Pictou County Wellness Centre will host the world’s best curlers next fall for the Pinty’s Grand Slam Tour Challenge event.
WESTVILLE ROAD, N.S. — The best curlers in the world are coming to Pictou County. The Pictou County Wellness Centre will be home to the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling Tour Challenge Nov. 5 to 10. Earlybird ticket packages went on sale March 6. The Tour Challenge will feature 30 top men’s and 30 top women’s teams from around the world, divided into two tiers of 15 men’s and 15 women’s squads. “We are thrilled that the first curling event to be hosted at the Pictou County Wellness Centre is the largest event on the Grand Slam Tour with more than 240 curlers from across Canada and around the globe,” said David Hood, chief executive officer of the wellness centre. “Hosting a major curling event has been something the Pictou County Wellness Centre identified as a goal since our opening six years ago, and we are very excited for the opportunity to be able to showcase our facility to curlers and curling fans from across the world next November.” The host committee, co-chaired by Donalda Buckingham and Jim Nix, has been selected for planning and promotion of the event. “This is truly a Pictou County event. We have been working with the four curling clubs in the county to begin the early recruitment of volunteers,” said Buckingham, “and it will take a lot of volunteers. You don’t need to be a curler to volunteer and learn something new about the sport. I encourage everyone to take a look to see how they can be involved.” Volunteer registration is now available at http://pcwellnesscentre.ca/volunteer-application.
