A unique event held at the New Glasgow library raised funds for new books.

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — More than $4,000 was raised at a unique fundraiser held at the New Glasgow library on March 3. Dine Among the Stacks saw almost 100 people enjoy a meal at the library in support of raising funds for new books. Jean Rozee, financial manager for the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library, is the person who came up with the idea to hold the event at the library and admits there were times she questioned whether or not it was a good idea or whether it would be a success. All doubts were eliminated the day of the event. Not only did they come within a couple tickets of selling out the event but they had an overwhelmingly positive response from those who attended. “To my surprise people were very willing to support it, both by coming and by purchasing the items at the silent auction,” Rozee said. The dinner had been catered by Pantry Kitchen and she said they did an amazing job from start to finish. When she had first approached them with her idea of feeding 100 people a meal in the library, she said she had little idea of how to approach it logistically, but said the local business helped her figure out everything from where to order tables to how to get tickets made. In addition to the meal itself, there was a silent auction, which was made possible thanks to the support of local businesses. In total, around $4,300 was raised at the event which will be used to purchase new books for the libraries. “People were saying that they really enjoyed the evening and they were hoping we would make it an annual event,” Rozee said.
