MacKeeman to mark St. Patrick’s Day weekend
PICTOU, N.S. — The deCoste Performing Arts Centre is offering a special two-for-one offer to see Gordie MacKeeman and His Rhythm Boys. The band performs Friday, March 15, at the centre at 7:30 p.m. and a St. Patrick’s Day weekend special for members is planned. MacKeeman is an ace fiddle player, nicknamed “Crazy Legs” for his frenetic, loose-limbed stepdancing. Combine that exuberance with the stellar musicianship of His Rhythm Boys and you have an unstoppable roots music force. That potent combination has made the group highly soughtafter performers on the international roots’ music circuit, with appearances from Adelaide, Australia, to Edinburgh, Scotland. The Prince Edward Island-based combo has released three albums to date which have brought impressive airplay and multiple awards. MacKeeman grew up in New Glasgow. Many in the region will remember him well as a young boy who step-danced his way through many summertime parades in the Pictou County area. Tickets for the show are $38. However, members of the deCoste Centre pay just $35 and as members they can purchase two tickets for that same price of $35. Therefore, there is a benefit to becoming a member. Also, members receive discounts at numerous restaurants and retailers throughout the county, discounts on many deCoste performances and additional opportunities for two-for-one shows. There is a members’ night in the fall, as well, where admission is free and members can be given first chance at tickets before they go on sale to the general public. For tickets to the show or memberships, contact the deCoste box office Monday to Friday 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 902-4858848 ext. 1 or 99 Water St., Pictou. Tickets are also available online at decostecentre.ca/tickets.
