50 Plus Club March minutes

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — The 50 Plus Club met on March 6 at the New Glasgow Fire Department. President Kathleen opened the meeting with the seniors prayer and song. It was moved by president that the minutes of Jan. 2 be approved as presented, carried by the showing of hands. Treasurer June moved that the Financial Statement be approved as presented, Seconded by Betty Jennex. President Kathleen provided the members with the news that the planner is in his final stages for the new senior centre.

ACTIVITIES

All events are up and running. Dolly presented all event personnel workers with a key to the steel cabinet. You are responsibl­e for the key, you are responsibl­e that the cabinet is locked after leaving. St. Patrick’s Celebratio­n, Friday, March 15, 1:30 p.m. Wear your green. Marie is taking care of music, Marge Casey and Fay Dunbar will be providing sandwiches and Jane Iveny will be providing sweets. Lets Talk, March 22, 1:30 p.m. Friday We now have 122 members. April 12, 11 a.m. Senior Federation Meeting, Trenton Steel Town Friendly Group, light lunch provide. Salvation Army, first Wednesday of every month, 50 per cent off except furniture. March 20 Westville, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch menu to include sweet and sour meat balls and rice, with mixed vegetables, brownies with hot sauce, coffee, and tea, free at cost, donations are accepted. A donation of food was presented to the Salvation Army for their food bank. We received as thank-you card from Tom Campbell that was read by the secretary, thanking the members of the club. The members elected for the Election Committee will be Lorraine Taylor, Betty Jennex and Marge Casey. 50/50 winners are Marge Casey and Janet Bye. The kitchen help for April’s meeting will be Josey Forchner and Jane Iveny. Speakers for the month of March were Glen Angus of H.W. Angus Funeral Home and Susan Abbot with the Canada Purple Shield, Halifax. Their talk was about arranging a funeral and the other responsibi­lities of that family member to make sure of the wishes of their love one. Informatio­n was given to all members to fill out on their own. The meeting was adjourned by Fay Dunbar and Betty Jennex, Cake, Vegetable Tray and Fruit Tray, coffee and tea to follow.
