Peewee AAA Crushers win Joe Lamontagne tournament
COLE HARBOUR, N.S. – The Peewee AAA Crushers captured the 37th Annual Joe Lamontagne Memorial Tournament last weekend.
The Crushers started action Saturday against the Dartmouth Whalers, winning 4-2. Scoring for the Crushers were Wyatt Spence and Kaden Smith, each with two goals, while assists came off the sticks of Cade Moser (2), Amias Crossman (2) and Dominac MacKenzie. Alex Palmer played well in nets.
On Saturday, the Crushers faced the East Hants Penguins, but were unable to find the back of the net in a 3-0 loss.
Game 3 was Sunday morning versus the EDZA East (N.B.) Blues.
The Crushers needed a win to move on in the tournament and fought to a 2-1 victory. Scoring for the Crushers were Spence and Crossman, while assists came from Levon Walst, with two, and a single to Corbin MacDonnell. Palmer again played a great game between the pipes.
The win set up a semifinal matchup with a familiar foe in the Yarmouth Mariners, with the winner getting a trip to the gold medal match.
The Crushers battled hard and beat the Mariners 5-3. Scoring for the Crushers was Caden Campbell, Spence, Smith, Keegan Dalton and Clint MacLaughlin. Assists came off the sticks of Landon Steele (2), MacDonnell, Owen Conrad, MacLaughlin, MacKenzie and Smith. Jorja Burrows was rock-solid between the pipes in the win.
The victory set up a Monday morning rematch with the Penguins.
The Crushers played great and won the championship game 2-1 to take the banner back to Pictou County. Smith scored both Crusher goals in the victory with assists going to Moser and Kingsley Austin. Palmer backstopped the Crushers to the win.
The Crushers start the provincial peewee AAA championship in Halifax March 21 at 2 p.m. against the TASA Ducks. The tournament runs March 21-24 and the games will be webcasted.
