PICTOU, N.S. — From Vegas to St. John’s, Just For Laughs veteran Derek Edwards is universally considered to be among the comic elite.

Certainly, his peers think so, by the fact he’s a four-time nominee and winner of Best Standup Comic – Canadian Comedy Awards, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy.

And Rick Mercer has said “Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.”

Edwards will be at the deCoste Performing Arts Centre Friday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m.

“So Here’s the Thing ...”, Edwards’ new 90-minute standup comedy show, is a richly textured and enthralling “cut above,” delivered with pace and authority by the consummate Canadian comedian.

He can be checked out online at: http://www.youtube.com/ watch?v=N4f7bxyZxDM. Tickets to Edwards’s deCoste show are $48.

LAYNE GREENE SECOND ALBUM LAUNCH SATURDAY, OCT. 26

The name Layne Greene may be familiar to those around the Pictou County area, as he grew up in New Glasgow. However, the indie/folk musician has been referring to Kingston, Ont., as his home base of late, but he plans to make a return to the area in the near future.

Greene is kicking off his Nova Scotia show dates to support the release of his second album, Resolutions near his hometown at the deCoste Performing Arts Centre in Pictou. The show will be on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. The show will be opened by Halifax-based band Sore Loser.

After making of his first album, Everywhere Around Here, in 2015, Greene toured regularly around the Maritimes for the next two years playing at shows like Stan Rogers Folk Festival in Canso, and In the Dead of Winter in Halifax.

His journeys took him to Moncton, N.B., where he found further inspiration for new material for a second album, with Dale Murray producing, as was the case on his first. The songs on his second album have steered away from his earlier material found on Everywhere Around Here and have a more defined indie/pop sound.

Tickets for the Layne Greene show are $25, or $23 for members.

Tickets to all shows are available by contacting the deCoste Box Office Monday to Friday between 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 902485-8848 or 1-800-353-5338, at 99 Water St., Pictou or by going online at decostecentre.ca.

This will be one of the shows that the PARL library branches will have the free Arts Are For Everyone show passes available for. Contact your local branch to determine availability.
