Salt Springs, pageant participant headed to Orlando, Florida
This summer Pictou County’s Felicity Mitchell will be making her international pageant debut over 2,000 km from home.
From Salt Springs, Mitchell will be competing for the title of Miss Teen North America in Orlando, Florida this July. The nineteenyear-old will be competing with the title of Ms. Northumberland Strait, North America.
Her pageant director was the one who asked if she would be interested in entering the pageant.
“I was just super excited to actually get into competing again. It's been forever and I was just excited that he asked me. When he messaged me on Facebook, I was so excited that I like dropped my phone.
“It was a big deal,” she says.
Not only will this be Felicity’s first pageant since COVID started, but it will also be the biggest pageant she has competed in.
Looking forward to this summer, she says she is most excited to meet new people.
“Most of my close friends are from pageants. We are like a whole sisterhood,” she says.
Felicity, a second-year student at Saint Mary’s University, started doing pageants in ninth grade.
Since then, she has done a handful of them, including the last Pictou Lobster Carnival and one in New Brunswick that saw her crowned Miss Teen Pictou County Int'l 2020.
She got into pageants when her mom Stacey Mitchell saw a Facebook post about one.
Stacey joked that Felicity should enter and a few days later she told her mom she actually wanted to.
Stacey says that Felicity competing in this upcoming pageant is scary, but she is glad she is doing it.
“It has been amazing. She was so shy before starting it and this kind of took her out of that,” says Stacey.
People who are interested in helping Felicity compete in the pageant can sponsor her with whatever amount they can donate.
