Donations support Aberdeen Hospital

NEW GLASGOW - The Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow has seen several service upgrades over the past few years thanks in part to donations from its foundation.

In a March 4 release, the Aberdeen Health Foundation said nearly $600,000 has been donated to the hospital since 2018 for surgical upgrades alone.

In 2021, donations helped make purchases such as new anesthesia workstations, patient monitors, a surgical OR bed and additional laparoscopic equipment.

The foundation has also already approved funding for an intubating scope, allowing for visualization of a patient's airway.

The increased equipment has allowed the hospital to extend its services to those in New Brunswick to Richmond County in Cape Breton.

The hospital offers one of four orthopedic programs in the province, as well as several other health programs provided by Nova Scotia Health.

Over the past 35 years, the foundation has donated over $26 million to the hospital.

“We are very fortunate and grateful for the support of our foundation,” said Alana Toole, health services manager of perioperative, endoscopy and medical device reprocessing service for the Aberdeen Hospital. “New equipment benefits patients and surgical staff, and also helps with physician recruitment. The foundation’s impact extends beyond the hospital and surgical program and touches the entire community.”
