Police seize First World War bazooka and several weapons from Pictou County home
GLENCOE, N.S. - A man is facing firearms charges after police seized a slew of weapons, including a First World War bazooka, from a Glencoe home following an incident in the community.
In an April 21 news release, Pictou County District RCMP said officers responded to a report of a man pointing a firearm at a woman at a home on East River West Side Road around 4:15 p.m. on April 12.
On arrival, officers learned that the woman fled to a neighbouring home and was found safe and uninjured.
Police said the woman told officers that the man had pointed the firearm at her and pulled the trigger, but the firearm was not loaded.
Officers secured the area around the home and tried to contact the man inside but didn't receive a response.
Police continued to secure the home while the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and RCMP negotiators made their way to the scene.
While waiting for ERT, officers saw the man leave the back of the home. Mounties made contact with the man, and he was safely taken into custody.
The man was then taken to the Pictou police station, where he was held overnight.
Police executed a search warrant at the home and seized six handguns, seven shotguns, eight rifles, a crossbow and gun parts. A First World War bazooka was also seized and turned over to the Royal Canadian Navy’s Feel Diving Unit Atlantic.
Daren Douglas Loucks, 55, is facing charges of careless use of a firearm, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, pointing a firearm, uttering threats and unsafe storage of a firearm.
Loucks was held in custody and will appear in Pictou provincial court on April 27 at 9:30 a.m.
