OWENS (Richard), Theresa Marie Elizabeth

-

Age 68, passed away peacefully on July 22,2023 in the QEII infirmary surrounded by her family.

Born in Halifax on March 31, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Fabian and Casilda (Samson) Richard of River Bourgeois.

Theresa was an amazing and caring woman with strength and determination unmatched by anyone. She was brilliant in so many ways, and could easily make someone feel seen and loved. She was very talented, from her oil paintings, perfectly capturing many different landscapes that hang around the house, to her incredible skills with knitting, creating blankets, baby hats (including donation of baby hats to the IWK), mittens and dishcloths (anyone that came to visit left with a handful of dishcloths) and her scrapbooks, showing her family’s lives from infant to present, laid out in an admirable and loving way. These things brought her joy and you would always almost see her knitting something new and unique with a large smile on her face.

She knew her way around a kitchen, her abilities to create the perfect dish or dessert was something that takes a great amount of talent and skill. Over the years she found a way to addict everyone to her backing and cooking. She has made mouth watering chowders, pancakes, meatballs, egg rolls, muffins, biscuits and so much more. Her chocolate chip zucchini muffins and sour cream tea biscuits were by far some of her most popular baked goods and something that everyone always looked forward to eating.

More than anything she loved her grandchildren, and she made it very apparent. She absolutely loved watching them play their sports and supported them in all their interests and hobbies, no matter how wild or crazy. She encouraged them no matter what and always made sure they knew that even if no one else was, she would be there for them. Her love was felt and cherished by her family and friends. Memories of her will be forever held dear by those who knew her.

Theresa is survived by her husband of 49 years, Paul Owens (Riverton); daughters, Tracy Brine (Kenneth) Hazel Glen, Tanya Owens (Shawn Mills) Hampton, New Brunswick, Tiffany Haynes (Mike) Green Hill and Tricia Trefry (Jonah) Fort McMurray, Alberta; beloved grandchildren, Alexander, Krislan, Katelyn, Leah, Jessica, Kaynen; brother, Paul Richard (Lorraine); aunt, Marguerite Fougere (Hubert), Dartmouth; uncle, Garvie Samson, Dartmouth, Monica and Joe Stone, St. Peter’s, Anne Richard (John) St. Peter’s.

Theresa was predeceased by her above mentioned parents and brother David.

Theresa has donated her body to the Dalhousie Medical School of Science so the disease she fought for so many years, Scleroderma, can be studied and hopefully better understood to help others in the future cope with this disease.

A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 5th at the Eureka Fire Hall from 1 - 3 P.M.

Although Theresa was unable to be an organ donor, she felt very deeply about organ donation and would want to encourage everyone to please be an organ donor.

Donations can be made in Theresa’s memory to Canadian Lung Association.
