Drummond report health recommendations:
“What we need is a broad revamping of the system that makes the parts work better together, so that the whole is greater than — or at the very least equal to — the sum of the parts.”
- the Drummond report
The Drummond report makes more than 100 health-care recommendations, including:
shifting health-care priorities for non-acute patients from inhospital care to community-based care, such as home care or longterm care homes.
greater integration of all healthcare services, rather than the existing model of several different services operating on their own.
stronger regional health-care governance, either through a revamped Local Health Integration Network system or local hospital boards. Whatever governance model is used, it needs to be properly funded and given appropriate powers to ensure the increased integration of health care services.
primary care model should be moved away from family doctors to local health-care teams, which include practitioners of several disciplines.
decrease human resource costs by having lower-skilled and lowerpaid practitioners do tasks they are trained for, but presently done by doctors and nurses.
shift the focus of the healthcare system from treatment of illness to keeping people healthy.
