Club Italia struggling to takes its chances

Losing is never easy. And when you’re playing well and out- chancing your opponents, it’s even tougher to swallow.

Just ask Anthony Notarianni, assistant coach of Club Italia Juventus’ soccer club.

“In our last three losses, we have out- chanced our opponents, but the ball is just not going into the net for whatever reason,” Notarianni said.

“We’re just not getting the bounces. It’s certainly not a lack of effort.”

Club Italia lost its last Ontario Soccer League South Premier Division match 4-1 on the road against Brampton Sunday.

Notarianni said the final score line wasn’t indicative of the overall match.

“The game was close — it was 1-1 at halftime,” he said. “Then we didn’t score on our chances, although we had many, and they took their three chances in the last 18 minutes to break it open.”

Club Italia now has a league record of two wins, five losses and one draw. The club is sixth in the 10-team league.

Notarianni said if the bounces ever start going his team’s way, he is sure the club’s confidence will grow and the results will be more favourable.

“We need to get our confidence going again. Sometimes when you keep missing chances, your confidence goes and you try to do too much. We just have to keep it simple, get a good result, and hopefully we’ll be back on track.”

Club Italia’s next league match is Thursday, at home, against Oakville. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
