“You get going. On my last five holes I was four- under so I started to get going and go with the momentum,” he said.

Soccio-Marandola took the event by one stroke over Ryan Dyck of Lookout Point, who carded a 35-36-71.

“You obviously try not to think about it and worry about your own game,” he said when asked about the tight finish. “Just play your own game and keep going.”

Some extra time on the greens paid off for Lauren Wardrope.

The 18- year- old Welland native had been struggling with her putting game, but turned things around after some sessions at her home course of Lookout Point.

Wardrope fired an 81 ( 39- 42) to place first in the girls division Wednesday. The win was her second of the season after winning at ICC July 10.

“My putting was actually good,” said Wardrope, who plans to study business administration at Wester this fall. “I was struggling with it the last couple of events but got some lessons from my pro and it’s better. “I’m trying to avoid three-putts.” Wardrope said there’s nothing harder to handle than getting off a good tee-shot, only to blow it on the greens.

“It’s pretty frustrating but I played well with these greens,” she said. “They compare good to Lookout. They are kind of quicker. I was having trouble with the slower greens the last tour stop (Rollwing Meadows).

Alexandra Taylor of Peninsula Lakes was second at 42-42-84.

Wardrope admitted Taylor was on her mind as the round progressed.

“I try to ask around to see where I am compared to the other girls, Alex Taylor is particular,” she said. “I was looking at her a lot. She was playing in front of me so I could see what she was doing, but I try to block it out, too.”

The tour continues Monday at Legends with a 7:30 a.m. shotgun start.
