Anew dental office is quickly taking shape on Thorold Stone Rd., next door to the Far East Restaurant. It’s expected to be open later this summer.

Dr. William Leskiw will be moving his Montrose Rd. practice to the new location. He is expected to be joined by one or more other professionals once the new facility opens.

Leskiw said he and his business partner both needed more space so they decided to build and put in state-of-the-art equipment.

The project has taken a bit more time than was expected to satisfy all the needed permits and requirements, but the builder, Dave Ross, has done a good job of trying to stay on schedule, he said.

“We had hoped to start digging last July, but we were delayed for various reasons,” said Leskiw, who has been at the Montrose Rd. location for about 25 years. He has been a dentist for 35 years. The first 10 years were spent at an office on Victoria Ave.

The new building is approximately 4,000-square-feet. The main floor will be dedicated to clinic space, plus patient facilities. The basement will be used for storage, a staff room and conference room.

Leskiw said he learned about the property while playing hockey with a friend, Amedeo Condotta, of Condotta Insurance.

“We were playing hockey and he mentioned he wanted to sell his property,” said Leskiw. “I looked at it and it didn’t take us long to put things together.”

New restaurant

Piccadilly Fish & Chips has opened at 5501 Ferry St., in the building that was previously occupied by the Sicilian Gardens Restaurant.

Opening the business in Niagara Falls was a longtime dream for the Dhinsay family. Jas Dhinsay was 14-years-old when his father opened a fish and chips restaurant in the United Kingdom, where he worked part time while studying at school.

After graduation, he joined his father, Harry, in the business and in 1988 he married his Canadian bride, Harpit. They worked in the family business in the U.K. while raising their two sons, Paul and Tony.

The Dhinsay family travelled back to Canada over the years to visit family and while in Niagara Falls they did their early market research for a true British-style fish and chips restaurant in the community.

Last year, an opportunity came up for the Dhin says to come to Niagara Falls and fulfil their dream of opening their own restaurant.

Jas says their family recipe for their batter has been perfected during their 30 years of service.
