Fort Erie looking for volunteer firefighters

-

Fort Erie Fire and Emergency Services is calling on brave local men and women who want to serve their community.

Applications for volunteer firefighter positions are being accepted until June 30.

“Besides being a great way to serve one’s community, being a volunteer firefighter has a number of benefits such as expert training, professional development and an annual honorarium,” says a press release from the Town of Fort Erie about the recruitment program.

The fire department hopes to fill “existing and impending vacancies” through the ongoing recruitment process.

Volunteer firefighters may be called upon 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to emergency situations.

In addition, they will be required to dedicate a specific number of hours per month to training, fire station duties and meetings.

Successful candidates must also complete a recruit training program followed by a 12-month probationary period, during which the candidate will undergo ongoing training and testing.

There are five fire stations in Greater Fort Erie serving the town’s six wards.

The Central Avenue fire station is an amalgamation of two fire companies.

Successful candidates must have a high school diploma, be 18 years old and live in Fort Erie full-time.

They must also have a G-class driver’s licence and clean police record. For more information, visit www.forterie.ca.
