Ribfest returns to Niagara Falls
Cook ‘em low and slow. That’s the key to great tasting ribs, says Mitch Neal, of Billy Bones BBQ.
“All of our ribs are cooked for four hours,” he said. “We put the utmost care into our ribs.” The key to a savoury sauce? “Well, that’s a secret,” Neal joked. “I can’t tell you that.”
Based in Fort Erie, Billy Bones BBQ will be one of six ribbers participating in the 13th annual Ribfest in Niagara Falls.
The event, hosted by Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise, will take place Friday to Sunday in the Niagara Square parking lot, in front of World Gym.
More than 20,000 people attended last year’s event and organizers are hoping yet another successful year.
“It’s a great family-friendly event and we’ll have great live bands all three days,” said Scott Wright, Ribfest co-chairman. “We encourage people to come out and support us.”
Ribfest is the main fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise, with funds raised benefiting local organizations supported by the club including Pathstone Mental Health, GNGH Foundation, Niagara Nutrition Partners school breakfast program.
In addition to the ribbers, the popular event will include food and market vendors and a 50/50 draw.
Visitors can also cast a ballot for their favourite ribber. Billy Bones BBQ brought home the coveted People’s Choice award
