Santa visits Fort Erie this weekend

- AMY ROEBUCK

Have you heard? Santa is coming to town! And the Fort Erie Public Library’s Centennial branch is a perfect spot to kick off the afternoon of the welcoming parade, Saturday, Nov. 18, with crafts, stories and lots of holiday fun. Drop in any time between 2 and 4 p.m. for free hot chocolate served by the Friends of the Library, and stay for a special holiday storytime with Mrs. Claus at 3:30 p.m. The parade begins at 4 p.m. on Jarvis Street, and will pass by the library at around 4:30 p.m. Please remember that the library parking lot cannot be accessed from Central Avenue at this time.

Ruth Vold Markle will help adults claim the holiday spirit, too, as she leads a demonstration on decorating around the home using natural elements. How would a fairy garden look as a table centrepiece, or under the tree? Do you need fresh ideas for your outdoor urn? Markle will be at the Crystal Ridge branch on Wednesday evening, Nov. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. to share ideas, and a few fortunate attendees will get to take home samples of her work for inspiration. Each branch of the library has books of holiday decorating, baking and cooking ideas. Browse in person, or online at www.fepl.ca to find your next holiday masterpiece. New at the library are Jamie Oliver’s Christmas Cookbook and The Artful Christmas by Susan Wasinger.

The Tween Club activity for grades 5 through 8 at the Centennial branch on Monday evening, Nov. 20 will be a Taste Test Challenge. Just imagine what the games and excitement will be — but please be sure to register ahead, so there will be samples for everyone.

The Book of Henry is the movie matinee for adults at the Crystal Ridge branch on Tuesday, Nov. 21, beginning at 2 p.m. This film features Naomi Watts and Sarah Silverman in a dramatic crime thriller about a single mother whose 11-year-old son devises a surprising plan to help his classmate and neighbour Christina with her dangerous secret.

Tuesday, Nov. 21 is a busy day at the library, with Family Time for little ones and their caregivers at the Centennial branch in the morning, and Tech Help for adults who need troubleshooting or advice with their electronic devices in the afternoon. In the evening, Moms’ Workout is a great time for women to get together for fitness help, with or without small children along.

Visit our website www.fepl.ca for details on any programming, or call or visit any branch.
