Share stories using hashtag #MyWalter

With Father’s Day this weekend, Wayne Gretzky and Wayne Gretzky Estates are asking Canadians to share stories about their fathers on social media using the hashtag #MyWalter.

The new campaign is inspired by Gretzky’s father, one of Canada’s best-known dads, Walter.

“My father is my role model, my teacher and my biggest fan,” said Gretzky when announcing the campaign. “But I’m his biggest fan. He was always there for me, flooding the rink in our backyard, driving me to practice, pushing me to be the best and believing in me. I imagine there are many dads just like him across Canada, let’s celebrate them all.”

To mark Father’s Day, Wayne Gretzky Estates Winery & Distillery will host a celebration barbecue on Sunday noon to 5 p.m. Walter will be the guest of honour at the Niagara-on-the-Lake event featuring food and drinks at the Whisky Bar patio, food trucks, music and family-friendly entertainment.

“Walter is the quintessential Canadian father,” said Katie Elder, marketing director of Wayne Gretzky Estates. “We’ve all been inspired about stories of Walter over the years and developed this campaign to inspire others to share their stories, we’re confident there are millions of them. Please tell us about your dad or memory of your dad and use the hashtag #MyWalter this Father’s Day.”

Tickets for the Father’s Day barbecue are available at waynegretzkyestates.com.

The #MyWalter campaign began May 21 and runs through Sunday.
