Big night planned at Merrittville Speedway

Saturday night’s racing at Merrittville Speedway will feature the fourth annual Retro Race night.

The night, presented by Gaston’s Auto Sales, looks back at 67 years of racing through a variety of T-shirts worn to the event.

“With our Reunion Night a month away, our Retro Race T-shirt Night kicks off the countdown and brings back a lot of memories for us all,” said Merrittville owner Don Spiece, who himself is a former racer.

“We were quite surprised at what our fans still have whether it is a favourite driver or a favourite event or former Merrittville T-shirts, we’ve seen what people are sharing on social media … we hope to see them during the event as well.”

The Hoosier Stocks will be featured as six divisions will race. It is the second home-track event for 2018 Insta-Panels Duel on the Dirt Series in addition to the S & W Service Centre 358 Modifieds, David Chevrolet Sportsman, Vansickle Pet Valu & Groomingdale’s Mod Lites, Central Fabricating & Welding 4 Cylinders and the Dave’s Auto & Speed Centre V-6 Divisions.

“Gaston Auto Sales has been a longtime supporter of many race teams over the years,” Spiece said.

“We’re proud to welcome them back for another event.

“Maybe some fans or race teams might have a Gaston’s race shirt from back in the day.”

Grandstands open at 5:30 p.m. with showtime set for 7 p.m.

Kart racing

In Merrittville cart action Tuesday, Trevor Evans won his first St. Catharines Discount Auto Parts Junior 2 feature while three drivers added to their win totals Tuesday.

Ed Crozier took home his third Wilder Racing Engines Senior Fun Feature and Jaedon Lawson and Travis Majuery both won their fifth features in the Superior Petro Fuels Junior Restricted and Southern Ontario Modified Lite Racing Association Divisions, respectively.

The racing is called the Performance Manufacturing Divisional Tuesday Night Bobcat of Hamilton Weekly Karting Series.

There was no winner in the RCM Racing Equipment Junior 1 Division. All competitors failed post-race technical inspections with engine slide issues.
