Sun Devils tame Ticats in junior elite final
St. Kitts tops Falls in 8-on-8 bantam, peewee playoff games
Quarterback Donovan Morgan threw four touchdown passes and ran for a two-point conversion, and the Sun Devils defeated the Tiger-Cats 42-6 for the Football Niagara junior elite championship.
Mason Arbic scored three touchdowns and caught a twopoint conversion from Morgan to lead the Sun Devils on offence in the division final Thursday night at Kiwanis Field in St. Catharines.
Sun Devils head coach Lucien (Luc) Gerritsen called the 8-on-8 division “great for player development.”
He said going undefeated allowed the “very strong team” to give every player a “chance to get better.”
“Donovan Morgan showed great composure, reading the blitz well and responding,” said Gerritsen, who also praised the play of Cooper Tice and Gabe Loiselle’s performance from the defensive end position after switching from tight end.
William Schultz, with three touchdowns; and Payton Roxborough, two-point conversion; also put points on the scoreboard for the Sun Devils.
Aidan McKinney caught a touchdown from Justin Dawe
and ran for another major for the Ticats.
BANTAM
Deondre Forde scored three touchdowns and two, two-point conversions to lead the St. Catharines into the Football Niagara bantam semifinals with a 34-20 victory over the Niagara Falls Argonauts.
Quin Johnston rounded the scoring for St. Catharines with touchdowns in Wednesday night’s game at Kiwanis Field.
Michael Grimo, with three touchdowns; and Christian Pettirossi, two-point conversion, accounted for the Niagara Falls scoring.
The Seahawks go on to play the West Niagara Falcons in the semifinal round Sunday, also at Kiwanis Field. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
Wrapping up six games Sunday on the turf at Kiwanis Field is a 7 p.m. bantam semifinal pitting the Fort Erie Longhorns against the Welland Tiger-Cats.
PEEWEE
The St. Catharines Seahawks shut out the Niagara Falls Argonauts 27-0 clinching a berth in the Niagara Regional Minor Football Association peewee semifinals.
Scoring for St. Catharines were Braiden Genest, three touchdowns, two converts; and Cameron Newbold, touchdown, convert.
The Seahawks face the West Niagara Steelers 3 p.m. Sunday at Kiwanis Field.
In the other semifinal, the Welland Tiger-Cats face the Fort Erie Longhorns beginning at 1 p.m.
