Showboat about to get hilarious case of ‘Stage Fright’

- METROLAND

Is it a whodunit or a what happened?

Port Colborne’s Showboat Festival Theatre returns with its third play of the season, the premiere of a new comedy by British playwright Robin Hawdon.

“Stage Fright” is set at the glamourous Cannes Film Festival, specifically a luxury Riviera hotel, where a hooded jewel thief breaks into a room and discovers the body of a beautiful film star lying prostrate, having blacked out.

A man bursts in and assumes the thief is a murderer. Meanwhile another man enters and assumes another story. And finally, the film star wakes from her blackout and assumes a third story.

It’s up to the hotel manager to try to make sense of all the stories.

Behind all this action, a huge film premiere is looming, a diamond necklace has gone missing, scandalous affairs are about to hit the headlines, and everyone appears to be trying to murder someone whilst blaming everyone else.

“Stage Fright” debuted in Germany in 2017 and had its North American premiere at Lighthouse Festival Theatre last month.

The premiere run begins at Showboat Aug. 8, running until Aug. 18.

Directed by Showboat/Lighthouse artistic director Derek Ritschel, “Stage Fright” features Steph Christiaens as Hailey, Allan Cooke as Oscar Gervaise, Jonathan Ellul as Jimmy, Melodee Finlay as Grace Gervaise, Mark McGrinder as Monsieur Boniface and Jamie Williams as Adam.
