SuperKids March to help provide lunches for students

-

Costumed kids will do their part to help other youths across the region enjoy lunches at school next month.

Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite superhero and participate in the SuperKids March Sept. 22 at Oakes Park.

Funds raised will go towards Community Crew, a non-profit charity formed to provide backpacks and lunches for Niagara students in need.

On average, the group prepares and delivers lunches to about 300 students at three St. Catharines schools.

This school year, it wants to expand the program into Niagara Falls and Welland.

“With this event, we hope to raise funds for the program to help expand into the Falls,” says march co-organizer Chris Dabrowski.

The march starts at 11 a.m. and will feature superheroes, vendors, food trucks and movie replicas like the DeLoreon from Back to the Future.

Dabrowski looks to make the SuperKids March an annual event in Niagara Falls.

“No child should go hungry.” he said.

The Community Crew originated to provide backpacks, but since adding the ‘Lunch Angels’ to the program, they have served more than 26,000 meals with the help of 130 volunteers who meet every Tuesday to prepare the food.

Another fundraiser for the planned expansion was held at Club Italia in April.
