-

Tomorrow’s Toronto Maple Leafs will be honouring a legend from the past this Saturday in Thorold.

Before the Calder Cup champion Toronto Marlies host the Rochester Americans in a 4 p.m. faceoff at Frank Doherty Arena, a pre-game festival will be taking place starting at noon.

Among the highlights is the chance to meet Maple Leafs alumni member Rick Vaive. The first Leaf to score 50 goals in a season will be signing autographs beginning at 2:15 p.m.

As well as free face-painting for children and a Marlies Ally fun zone featuring inflatables and activities for families, the Calder Cup on be display.

Johnny Rocco’s Pizza Wagon, Canadiana, A GO GO and Taco Queso by Karma Kameleon are the food trucks expected to be at the event.

People who aren’t attending the game are welcome to take part in the pre-game festivities.

Tickets to the exhibition game are available at the door. They are $35 each, cash only, and cover admission to Saturday’s game as well as a regular-season game versus the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday, Oct. 20, at Coca Cola Coleseum in Toronto.

The Marlies are the top farm team in the Maple Leafs organization and the Calder Cup is awarded to the American Hockey League playoff champions.

Vaive, who went to net 50 goals three times in a row for Toronto, was among the Leafs legends who played in an alumni game when the team held part of its training camp at Gale Centre in Niagara Falls earlier this month.
