Canucks blank Regals to stay undefeated

Zach Moore records 11th career shutout in road win

Zach Moore stopped 22 shots backstoppi­ng the Niagara Falls Canucks to an 8-0 victory over the Lockport Regals Wednesday night in western New York.

The 11th regular-season shutout of his Greater Junior Hockey League career improved the Canucks to 5-0 in the junior B loop’s Golden Horseshoe Conference. Mitch Mendonca led all scorers with two goals and two assists as Niagara Falls moved into a firstplace tie in the eight-team conference with the Pelham Panthers, also 5-0.

Ryan Carruthers, Ryan Donovan, Dillon Hill, Justin Kyle, Justin Randhawa and Milos Todorovic rounded out the scoring for the Canucks.

Niagara Falls outshot Lockport 33-22 and went 0-for-7 on the power play. Lockport finished the game 0-for-3 when it played with a man advantage.

On Friday the Canucks host Pelham in a battle of undefeated teams. Faceoff at Gale Centre is 7 p.m.

Action in the Canucks’ regional rivalry with the Welland Jr. Canadians gets underway with a 7:05 p.m. faceoff at Welland Arena.

Lockport is off until next Wednesday when it welcomes the St. Catharines Falcons to a 7 p.m. game at Cornerston­e Arena.

Only game on the Golden Horseshoe schedule Thursday night had the Thorold Blackhawks, 2-3, home to the Fort Erie Meteors, 0-3-0-1.
