Top 10 reasons for a new council
The forthcoming election will present the citizens of Niagara a great opportunity to re-establish a Niagara Region council of competent representation.
The present unscrupulous band at the upper echelon and their nimble-minded followers need to be escorted to the exit door. An educated approach in voting can achieve this much needed overhaul.
Here are my top 10 reasons for a revamped council.
10. To allow the media the freedom of resourceful reporting without constant bickering and denial from the current council;
9. To eliminate the grandstanding without merit against communities (eg. Pelham) for being progressive;
8. To be able to properly select a CAO without providing pre-interview answers;
7. To stop the current chair from submitting excessive expense claims without receipts or explanation;
6. To eliminate another term of constant bickering;
5. To be able to present public issues of importance rather than some councillor’s personal agenda;
4. To eliminate mileage expenditures for a councillor’s personal weekly trips to Toronto for a radio station program;
3. To eliminate excessive closed door sessions in favour of transparency.
2. To eliminate the inner circle club.
And the No. 1 reason for a revamped regional council is to eliminate the stifling odour ascending from the current council allowing citizens of honesty and integrity to represent the residents of Niagara. Barry Tuttle
