Thorold vs Lockport Wednesday; Regals visit Panthers Sunday

The Thorold Blackhawks skated past the visiting Lockport Regals 5-1 Thursday night, lifting their junior B hockey regular-season record back to .500 in junior B hockey.

Owen Allan, Blair Jenkins, Nicholas Rubino, Trevor Neumann, Devon Thibodeau found the back of the net for Thorold as the Blackhawks came back from a one-goal deficit to improve to 12-12-1-1 in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference.

Mike DeSpirt scored for Regals, who fell to 0-2-1 in head-to-head play versus the Blackhawks and to 3-21-1 overall.

Thorold outshot Lockport 46-16 in a game that was almost whistle-free in terms of penalty calls. Only infraction resulting in a power-play opportunity was a two-minute tripping penalty against the Blackhawks.

A Regals player received a 10-minute warmup violation before the game got underway.

Thorold’s next game is Wednesday in Lockport, while the Regals visit the Pelham Panthers for a Sunday matinee and travel to play the Kilty B’s the following night in Hamilton.

Last night’s Golden Horseshoe schedule had Fort Erie Meteors, 8-16-0-1; at St. Catharines Falcons, 18-3-0-2; and Niagara Falls Canucks, 22-3-0-2; hosting Welland Jr. Canadians, 6-16-0-2.

Pelham, 14-10-0-2; visits Fort Erie in the only Saturday game.

Huskies Jr. Blues 10, RiverHawks 3

At Hamilton, it was the visiting RiverHawks, not the hosts, who had the blues after a second lopsided loss in as many nights.

Goals from Keith Palmer, with two; and Jacob Saddler was all the offence Niagara was able to muster in Thursday night’s game at Olympic Arena Dundas.

The rebranded Dundas Blues outshot their 48-37 and went 1-for-4 on the power play to improve to 13-11-1-1 in the junior C loop’s South Bloomfield Division.

Niagara, 13-12-0-2; failed to score on five opportunities with a man advantage.

Dante Massi replied for the R’Hawks in an 8-1 road loss to the Glanbrook Rangers on Wednesday night. Niagara returns home to Gale Centre against the Dunnville Mudcats at 7:30 p.m.
