Police seize $68,110 in drugs, $70,000 in cash

Three people were arrested and cocaine, heroin and crystal meth were seized after a three-monthlong drug investigat­ion by Niagara Regional Police.

The NRP’s morality unit, with the assistance of the guns, gangs and grows unit and St. Catharines street crime unit, executed search warrants Thursday at three residences, one hotel room and two vehicles.

Police said they seized $68,110 worth of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, “purple heroin,” which is a mix of heroin and fentanyl, and crystal meth.

They also seized $70,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime, brass knuckles, an HK P7M8 handgun with ammunition that was reported stolen in 2014 and a 2013 Ford F150 vehicle as offencerel­ated property.

Other drug traffickin­g related parapherna­lia such as a scales, a money counter, a cellphone and packing materials were also found.

Andrew MacDonald, 30, of Niagara Falls; Catherine Storey, 38, of Thorold and Robert Gurley, 30, of Thorold were each charged with possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a prohibited item obtained by crime, possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon. MacDonald faces a further 21 charges, including five counts of possession for the purpose of traffickin­g, three counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibitio­n order, possession of a firearm knowing it’s not authorized, two counts of possession of proceeds of crime and 10 counts of breach of recognizan­ce.
