Theatre on track for mid-2019 opening
Entertainment centre will seat 5,000
Construction on the new 5,000seat entertainment centre in Niagara Falls is “going well and tracking good progress” towards its expected mid-2019 opening.
“This remains our general estimated timeline with more specifics to come in the near future,” said Ontario Lottery and Gaming spokesperson Tony Bitonti.
OLG selected Niagara Falls Entertainment Partners to be responsible for all development capital and maintenance costs associated with the new theatre.
Niagara Falls Entertainment Partners is a consortium which includes Mississauga-based construction company Bird Construction.
Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the centre.
The facility will be located adjacent to Fallsview Casino, next to the Hilton Hotel at the corner of Stanley Avenue and Murray Street, and will be connected to the casino by an enclosed pedestrian walkway.
Construction began in the fall of 2017, and at the time officials said the centre is expected to open in June 2019.
Bitonti said the project is expected to result in an initial capital investment of more than $130 million. More than 800 direct jobs are associated with the construction, as well as what will be the ongoing maintenance and operations of the centre.
“The City of Niagara Falls hosts two successful gaming facilities and is a natural tourist hub,” said Bitonti.
“The new entertainment centre will accommodate larger concerts, shows and attractions, and is expected to draw more visitors to the city of Niagara Falls and the Niagara casinos.”
He said OLG is “proud” to be part of the Niagara Falls community, and to “help ensure the long-term competitiveness of Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara.”
Niagara Falls officials have pointed to a consultant’s study that described the entertainment centre as one of the “missing pieces” of the local tourism puzzle that would bring an extra one-million people a year to the city. They also said with 5,000 seats, it will be easier for people to get tickets to shows than it currently is at Fallsview Casino’s Avalon Ballroom, which seats only 1,500 people.
The new 5,000-seat theatre located next to the Hilton Hotel is beginning to take shape and will be linked to Fallsview Casino by a new enclosed walkway.
