Audiobooks provide hands-free reading
Have you ever listened to a book?
To be honest, I have only started listening to audiobooks in the past few years. For a long time, I thought audiobooks just weren’t for me. I also thought I’d fall asleep listening to a story or that my mind would wander and cause me to miss important details.
It wasn’t until one day that a library patron said that she listens to them as she does chores around the house that I decided to give them a try. It was revolutionary. I found I could still read through chores. Many of us have been in the middle of a great book and fall behind on things that are on our to-do list. Listening to an audiobook as you do the dishes, clean out your room, fold laundry or cleaning the house. It’s an easy way to accomplish some reading during times you normally would not be able to pick up a book.
Audiobooks are also great for commutes as they are the perfect opportunity to squeeze in some reading. Do you have any long trips coming up? Try an audiobook to help pass the time. They’re great for family car trips as well — you can only play I Spy so many times, and a book will keep everyone entertained.
Another great tip is that you can find audiobooks that are read by the author. It’s a special experience to hear the author reading their own words. I especially recommend those that are written and read by comedians.
If you need some recommendations or help finding any titles the Fort Erie Public Library is here to help. We have audiobooks on CD as well as apps such as Freading, Hoopla and Libby that can be downloaded to your smartphone or tablet so that you can access audiobooks on the go.
